We had a scary experience. Our boat was taking on water because our shaft seal cooling line sheared off. We tried plugging it with various materials and going low speeds, but our efforts weren’t enough. We were trying to make it to Powell River, but decided to stop at Lund. Best decision EVER to stop at Jack’s. New owner Bill is truly a gem of a person. Not only did he let us land and offer us power, he drove us to a competitor to find a part we might need. They didn’t have it so we scheduled a haul out. But then he and his employee approached us with a part (already wrapped in teflon tape!!!) that might work. It did!! Just because Bill and his crew are such a good people, we were able to get underway and are able to get back home on time and without the unexpected expense of a haul out. You don’t meet that kind of integrity and character every day. Kudos to the new owners of Jack’s Boat Yard.

I broke down in Desolation Sound on Friday, and contacted Jacks’ Boat Yard on a Saturday (as soon as I had reception) while being towed in.

They found me a spot on their dock for the weekend, had me lifted out by Monday, and accommodated a trailer pickup on a Tuesday. The lift operator went out of his way to put me in touch with the local Mercruiser Mechanic to try and save me a tow back to Vancouver.

If you break down in Desolation Sound, this is where you want to be towed to. Their dock is also great for a quick swim, while you work and/or wait for a mechanic.

We spent 3 months there recently. Jack and his staff are friendly and very helpful. The rates are very reasonable and everyone is professional and knowledgable. If you need to go on "the hard", this is the only place to go.
