I have had a Southland Log Home since 2010. All the reviewers seemed happy at that time, except for some issues with doors and windows. So I asked if they could back those out of my contract for credit, which they did. I got Pella to bring my doors and windows. I asked for some minor changes to the floor plan, and they had an architect make changes. The contractor did a great job on the build. It was little delayed: the wood was delivered April 1, 2010, and we were told it would take until August. We moved into it by Thanksgiving. I had a problem with some of the wood delivered for the vaulted ceiling - it had black and gray stains on it, looked like from some metal bands that might have bound them together. I complained to the company, and after I sent them some photos, they sent me new clean wood to replace the bad ones, and the contractor changed them out. The home has been easy to maintain; I just restain the outside every 4 years. It looks great and I'm glad I bought it. I would definitely do business with Southland again.

My husband and I drove 3 hours to see what his company has to offer. The outside of their model home is beautiful. However, the inside is much different. I honestly thought I was walking into a funeral home. It has funeral home music, pink and striped wallpaper EVERYWHERE, and it really smelled like a funeral home. I started searching for the coffin and wondering if we went to the right place! Not a soul was to be found. My husband even had time to go to the restroom and I walked around the front of the home, but no one came to greet us. That's fine though, it gave us time to inspect their workmanship and I have to say, if that was an example of the homes they build, we'll pass. The walls looked horrible and had squishy caulk between the logs. Not impressed. I'm just thankful we actually passed a decent log company (Honest Abe) on our way to their company, so our 3 hour trip wasn't a total waste of time.

Buyer Be Very Aware!!!!
The sales people for this company will tell you anything to get that initial deposit.
In my package alone I have had to call about the poor quality of materials provided at every turn. I have heard excuse after excuse about how sorry they are about the poor quality control. Kind of like mine is the first one to slip through the cracks.
The square log profile they tell you is interior quality finished is most definetly not the case. Each of the squared off ends of my logs look as if they were cut with a dull saw and they vary in thickness. While that might look quaint on the exterior on the interior it looks like it sounds.... unprofessional!!!!! The interior beams that were sent were all bowed to the point my builder wasted hours on each working them into place. The latest was when we found out the trusses were the wrong length, South Land’s truss guy solution was to try and get my builder to rip the truss the entire length 5/8 inch so they would fit? That not only wouldn’t pass code but would weaken the entire system but what do they care they got their money.
Here is another little bit of insight.... all the exterior lumber for the porches is non pressure treated. Even I know puttting non pressure treats lumber on a porch is a fail waiting to happen.
I offered to let them come see the poor quality of what they are selling but of course that will never happen.
If your looking to build your dream log home do yourself a favor and avoid this one all together. I paid for it so I have to finish building it but I would NEVER recommend South Land to anyone.

Mr. Gill Clark was the BEST, his willingness to provide us with the best solution for what we were looking for, but we didn't have the land to do it, I will highly recommend Southland Log Homes
