After getting quotes from 2 other similar companies, it was obvious immediately that Big Steel Box was more organized, professional and friendly. I chose them and was very impressed with every part of the process. The office staff was professional and accommodating when I needed to adjust my dates. The box was delivered by a very skilled driver who worked very carefully to put my box exactly where I wanted it and it was a tight squeeze because I have a shared driveway. The box was clean and very secure. I got “heads up” calls when delivery or pickup was in a half an hour, which was helpful. Every part of the experience with Big Steel Box was excellent. I would highly recommend them.

Professional staff, very responsive to emails and phone calls regardless if you reach your particular agent that setup the logistics of the move, or you reach another staff member - everyone is willing to help and accommodate changes in dates and times. The cost is what you make of it, you can choose if you would like BigSteelBox to take on the delivery at both your move destinations, or if you would like to deliver and/or pickup from their distribution yards. For me, I moved from Ontario to Alberta and they had a local yard in Alberta and a yard a bit further away from where I lived in Ontario. We decided to take a moving truck to their yard in Ontario to save a bit on costs, but they delivered it directly to our door in Alberta which was great and convenient. We were even able to move our car from Ontario in the 20’ container with 1BDRM+additional furniture. Easy to arrange pickups, it is as simple as a phone call and they will be there in a day or two depending how many containers they have scheduled to move. Overall great moving experience and very cost effective compared to other moving options.

Great experience with BigSteelBox Service! They offers a very reasonable price range and the whole process is so smooth and painless. The customer service representatives respond quickly, even on weekends!

Moreover, as I need to move out the old hose before noon on a specific date, the customer service agent listened to my needs and helped to coordinate with the local site to make a right on time pickup. The local delivery and pickup process is very professional and smooth as well. Highly recommended!

Had a great experience using Big Steel Box for a cross country move from Calgary to Toronto. The communication on both sides was excellent and pick up and drop off times were as expected. My items arrived in great condition and the smallest size box provided ample space to move all my things (the equivalent of a one bedroom apartment). It was great to have the flexibility to pack and unpack at my own pace. Will definitely use them again if I need to make a big move!

Their customer service reps were super friendly and helpful throughout the process... the box was delivered on time in great condition. Only ran into a problem towards the end of our rental, when it was time to move. I was left to understand that my empty delivery and eventual empty pickup were paid for at the beginning (a ‘first and last rent’ sort of deal). It was just the move of the loaded box I would still have to pay for. However, when I told them how far away the house was we had found and purchased, all of a sudden I was quoted $495 for the move, and $500 (minus the $85 I had paid at first) for the empty pickup. This was more than we could afford, and so we had to scramble to find a 26’ u-haul (which in total, with the gas we put in it, and including taxes, cost us less than $450.00).

Had I known how expensive it was to move with them, I would have booked a u-haul more in advance so we weren’t scrambling to find one big enough on short notice.

To be fair, I never asked them how much it would cost to move, so, my bad. But they knew I was looking for a home, so I just sort of expected them not to assume I was buying local to Kitchener/Waterloo (definitely couldn’t afford that either).

All this to say... don’t move with Big Steel Box if moving any distance (we were only moving 87 km away for heaven’s sake), and their nearest yard was only 18 km the other way from our starting point.

However, they were otherwise always very friendly, professional, and helpful as I dealt with them over the phone. Their great customer service is why they’re getting four stars. Aside from the lack of upfront communication regarding the cost of moving a box a given distance, I have no complaints. To anyone who has the space for a box (offsite storage is extra), and is located local to one of their yards (such as the one by Ayr, ON), I would highly recommend them for your storage and local moving needs.
