If you need to take your pet to the vet this is the place to go. We live in Calgary and will drive to Carstairs every time. Our pup had to get ACL surgery and they squeezed him in for surgery quickly. Dr. Tom even called me explaining the surgery and letting me know all the details about it.

Post surgery our dog was doing amazing in under 2 weeks!!

He had a fall down the steps after surgery and they got him in to the clinic for a check up right away and even did an x-ray for no charge!

He is now frolicking in the grass freely! See last photo 🙂

Huge thank you to Dr. Tom and the entire team for taking such great care of our dog! We came in from Calgary for TPLO surgery and couldn’t be happier with the outcome. The price was very fair, the staff was friendly and professional, and the whole clinic has a no-BS, straightforward attitude that we really appreciated.

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Renae. My GS Rocky suffered from Oral Melanoma for the past 1.5 years, and he had been under her care for a few months before it was time for him to cross the rainbow bridge. Although I did everything for my sweet angel, it wasn’t enough and Dr. Renae was there to help his cross the rainbow bridge. We were able to spend some extra time with Rocky in their grieving room and although it wasn’t what I had envisioned for the end of his life, it was the best scenario for the circumstances. She was very discreet when it came time to start the procedure and compassionate. She made sure we were ready before doing anything. She was incredibly sorry that we were going through this traumatic event. I would recommend anyone see Dr. Renae and in the future if I need anything outside of what my regular vet in Calgary can do, I will drive back to see her in a heartbeat. Thank you for everything Renae.

Our German Shepherd is now 12 weeks post-op from bilateral TPLO surgery with Dr. Tom, and we truly can't say enough positive things about our experience with him and the entire team at Carstairs Veterinary Clinic. Our dog is doing very well, and we felt fully supported throughout — from pre-surgery consultations to every step of his recovery.

We had a number of concerns before surgery, especially after our primary vet advised against TPLO due to arthritis in our dog’s knees. After reading positive reviews, I reached out to Dr. Tom, and I deeply appreciated his patience, clear communication, and how generous he was with his time. His honesty and straightforward advice gave us the confidence we needed, and we knew we could trust his professional opinion. Looking back, we truly can't imagine not going forward with the surgery.

We traveled over 8 hours to see Dr. Tom, and even from a distance, we felt incredibly supported. The app used for post-op care made a big difference, allowing us to send daily updates and receive timely feedback throughout our dog’s recovery. That ongoing connection gave us peace of mind during a stressful time.

I recently took my pet to Carstairs Vet and overall, the staff were professional and caring, which I appreciated. However, I found one major issue that really affected the experience — the signage around the clinic is severely lacking and needs significant improvement.

Finding the clinic was much harder than it should be, especially when coming in off the highway. The entrance is poorly marked, and there’s little to no clear direction on where to turn or where to park. This made the trip stressful, particularly because I was trying to get my pet seen quickly and didn’t have time to circle around or guess which way to go.

Better, more visible signage would make a huge difference for both new and returning clients. Clear directions from the highway, signs pointing to the main entrance, parking areas, and drop-off zones would reduce confusion and help streamline visits. It’s a basic but crucial part of providing a positive experience, especially for pet owners who may already be anxious.

I hope Carstairs Vet management takes this feedback seriously and invests in better signage to make the clinic easier to access and navigate. Once that’s fixed, it would make an already good veterinary service much more convenient and welcoming.

Amazing practice, well worth the drive up from Calgary. Word of mouth down here were all positive experiences. Follow-up and recovery experience is unlike any other clinic. Vet is extremely knowledgeable, skilled and empathetic.

We are so grateful to Dr. Tom and his team at the Carstairs Veterinary Clinic! Our 2 lb Yorkie recently had knee surgery, and the entire experience was exceptional.
