📌 Emplacement de South West Pond Cabins

South West Pond Cabins

We stayed here last week for 3 nights. The location is beautiful. Yes the cabin is dated, but who cares, it was clean and dry and had everything we needed. We came from out of province, and drove across the island to get here, so to only have to worry about clothes and food was great.
Did the water smell, yes, not much you can do about it. We cooked with bottle water we brought and just opened the windows when all were done showering. The smell didn't stay on your skin.
Would book here again!

While the location is great, the stink of the water is horrible. As soon as you turn on the water, the stench hits you in the face. Luckily, there is a swimming pool 30 minutes away in St. Anthony that only costs 5.oo entry and has clean showers. Cooking and cleaning was unbearable at times. Sofa was terrible, my son even complained about hitting hard beams in the sofa back.
Kitchen was well equipped. Piles of gravel and soil still near entry.
We had booked a different cabin, however the reservation got mixed up, and Snorri Cabins provided us with this cabin at South West Pond instead. They were helpful with correcting the booking error, however I can not recommend anyone stay in a cabin with stinky, filthy water.

Well located if your traveling to the viking attentions. Few good restaurants near by. Cabins are nice, to a point. Furniture is very dated. Looks like your grandparents cottage from the 1970s. Internet was not good, and with limited mobile service. Satellite TV was not working. Landscaping outside was unfinished, with dirt piles broken equipment all over. There is just no attention to detail at this place.

We stayed over a week. The cabin was spacious and well laid out, had plenty of plugs, very comfortable beds, small selection but goo quality pots and pans suitable for preparing simple meals that we prepare. Full size fridge, and stove were handy and we made good use of the toaster and microwave. Kitchen table was. Spacious and the wooden chairs were comfortable. Not so. The sofa. It sunk when one set on it and it was uncomfortable. The kitchen had very limited (really tiny corner) counter space and it was the darkest spot in the kitchen, under cabinet lighting would be a cheap an d effective solution to the lighting problem. The biggest issue for us was the fact that hot water reaked of hydrogen sulphide and the smell inverted after the water was turned off. It didn’t make showers or cooking a joy. This is a common issue in Newfoundland and has to do with organics and bacteria in water reacting inside the water heater. It is safe, but unpleasant and it is easily solved. I emailed the information to the manager, so perhaps it will be addressed. Another issue is the absence of airconditioning. When we first arrived, it was still cold and so we did not miss it, but towards the end of our stay outdoor temperatures reached 28 degrees centigrade and the cabin was hotter still. Overnight, it got cooler, but we both had trouble sleeping in the heat. So a mixed bag of positive and negative, but on the whole we would probably chose another place to stay next time

Clean place, but loveseat (the only seating in the living room) was old and extremely uncomfortable, shower barely dribbled water out and the water smelled horrible. No place to put suitcases and no closet. The location is good, but the value of what you get for your money just doesn’t correlate.

Cabin was clean and stocked, if you are not used to "well water" i suggest bringing your own drinking water for cooking/brushing teeth etc. We did not have any problem with it, dont be suprised to see it being a little yellow. Lots of mosquitoes outside though, but we read the reviews prior so we are prepared and fired up the thermacell at the entrance of the cabin. No mosquitoes inside of our cabin.

Easy communication with the lady over the phone for booking last minute.
Wifi and TV are both working.

We recommend this place.

The worst place ever!!! Not even a star is worth it. The cottage is too old and worn out. Insect screens fell off and lots of bugs and mosquitoes get inside through the gap, but this is not the worst part. The tap water is polluted by something rusty. The color is yellowish and smells like rust or rotten eggs. I couldn't use the water except for using toilet. So I called to the three numbers to handle this problems; office, cellphone and owners home, but no one picked up the phone. I left voice mail and sent them text messages but no answers until I left the place. It was really annoying and I was so pissed off. I attached two photos about the water condition. Judge for yourself by them.

This place is close to L’anse aux meadows and was a convenient place to stay. You could tell it had been cleaned as the cleaning smell was still strong. It has two bedrooms a bathroom and a main room. It felt like it was furnished with second hand furnishings like you|Might do if you owned a rustic cabin. It did have a coffee maker etc so it would be convenient to make your own meals. One of the beds wasn’t comfortable but the others were. Caretaker doesn’t stay on site at night
