I bought 5 boxes from U-Haul and one of them was clearly defective right from the start—the print and cut lines didn’t match up at all. When I brought it back, instead of helping, the lady employee with glasses accused me of cutting or damaging it myself, which was completely false. It was never used, and the issue was clearly from the factory.

To make it worse, both a guy and one lady working there showed no interest in helping customers. Even with a long lineup, they just stood around drinking coffee and chatting about what they did yesterday. Totally unprofessional and disrespectful.

U-Haul advertises a 100% buy-back guarantee but clearly doesn’t stand by it. I won’t be coming back. Very disappointing experience.

Well I think all you have to do is read the other posts to get the idea. We had booked 6 months in advance had confirmed by phone 2 days prior to our pickp date that our pickup truck was waiting for us and then on the date we go through all the paperwork at the counter go out to the lot to get in our truck and don't find any truck with the number on it that we were looking for.
Go back inside and line up again only to be told some story that they didn't have any pickup trucks and they can't guarantee vehicles.
Of course we are now desperate with no other options and was offered a $50 discount to get us out the door.
We thus got stuck with driving a noisy, unruly cargo van with limited visibility for 17 days instead of the pickup truck we had been promised.
After literally hours of back and forth with head office over the next week we were only given an extra $100 discount on our $1500 rental. No discount was acknowledged by the dealer at time of return in any way and I had to spend further time following up afterwards with head office to ensure that we received the $150 refund I had worked so hard in negotiating. Just a gong show and if there were other options we would have taken them.
In addition at the time of picking up the vehicle a $1300 deposit charge was put on our Visa card with out making us aware of this. This could have had serious repercussions for maxing out our Visa card or not having enough money in our account to cover our monthly bill payment,etc.
I will say the vehicle was almost brand new and had no issues but be aware these are bare bones vehicles with one physical key no fob or creature comforts in any way.

Terrible service after renting a u-haul for 3 days. Was told we would be charged for the amount of gas we used but then was told to fill it up ourselves to the exact amount it was when we rented it. Staff were condescending, unclear, and generally awful to interact with. I will actively tell people to avoid this business based on my experience with them.

I had a major issue- and it seemed a real lack of concern upon check in.

I used a box van to move. Loaded it the day I rented delivered it the next morning and returned. The unit though- was FULL OF RAIN. Like my boxes were soaked through. I have a nice guitar case that was absolutely soaked and still is. If fiber board inside- thats not meant for that much water.

I don't know how- but i would imagine a rig designed to cross the country is meant to keep the bed dry.

Service all otherwise was amazing. Especially checknout. The lady who helped me dug deep and made it all work. Even after a disgruntled first customer. But the water soaked items, boxes and including 2 mattresses was really disappointing.

You guys are still great. Swrvice, experience and otherwise. But that sucked. And I definitely lost at least my guitar case. That was also my father's. Its all good. And things happen. I just really measure the truck bed to be secure and likely dry. Never even crossed my mind the rain was running in all night. Even while latched and locked. It was a free for all. And likely ran backcourt when I drove up the hill.

My stuff has been in a storage locker there for several years. It has temperature control so there's no need to worry about mold growth. U-Haul also has affordable moving trucks and there are signs up, saying: We ship to anywhere.

Very disappointed with service, would put zero stars if I could. Ordered a van specifically to move items of value and were guaranteed a van, when we arrived we were given a ten foot truck with no way to tie down the items. We complained to staff and asked for a van but were told they had none available, yet there were vans on the lot that were clearly not in use. Never booking from here again, horrible service

I’ve rented from various U-Haul locations across Canada, always with great experiences and no issues. However, the U-Haul location in St. John’s, Newfoundland, was by far my best experience ever. The staff were exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable, and supportive—well done!

I used the U-Haul truck to move some items from Costco to my house. The truck is well maintained and the drive was smooth. The staff were very helpful as they provided the sufficient support. I recommend U-Haul for your next need to move furniture or other items.
